How to Homeschool

As we are nearing the end of our homeschool year, I was thinking of how far we have come this year. I am so happy with how productive we were this year. We are still not where we need to be, but I know that we worked really hard this year, and the kids and I earned this summer break!!

I put together a YouTube video for anyone considering homeschooling. Last year, I was really weary after the school year we had finished. It was really really hard, and I was in a place of needing to decide what we were going to do differently for the next school year.

If you are in the same place we were last year and feeling defeated, I really hope this helps you. And please feel free to leave a comment with any questions you might have!

The Sunday Morning Diary of a Pastor’s Wife ::: The Long Day

We serve at a large church. The attendance on a weekly basis is about 16, 000 people. Thus, we have three Sunday morning services. The kids and I usually attend the third service for a few reasons, but mostly because it gives ample time for us to get ready in the morning. One thing that I have known for quite some time is that Sunday’s tend to be very long days.

Just by the fact that the third service is a later service, we leave church no earlier than 1:30, but usually around 2 o’clock. That is only if we don’t have some kind of meeting for one our ministry’s after church. This means that I need to be very flexible.

Naps will be later, kids will be cranky. Jon will be hungry, so I need to plan accordingly. What will we eat? If we have a ministry meeting after Jon usually provides food. Will I stay or do I need to take Little Jack home for a nap? As a pastor’s wife I try to be at the meetings to support Jon, but sometimes that support comes in the form of excusing myself to care for our children. I am okay with that. I use to feel as though I am missing out, but I really feel as though this is a tangible way of serving my husband, and the Lord will reward me for it.

As you approach your Sunday morning, whatever your day looks like, offer it to the Lord. Pray throughout the week for your Sunday. Oh, dear fellow pastor’s wife, I know the weight that Sundays bring. I know the utter exhaustion that comes from a day full of ministry. But I also know that you were made for this. To support your husband and serve along with him. You are in a unique and privileged position, and you will be blessed accordingly.

Get to Know Me, LyssaLoveLee

Introductions can be so awkward. Which is fitting because, I myself can be very awkward. So let’s just start with “Hi!” My name is Alyssa. I was raised in a Christian home, and was a PK (Pastor’s Kid) for half of my childhood, and the oldest of four children. I was also homeschooled.

My parents were amazing parents. Patient, and kind. They truly wanted the nothing more than for their children to have a relationship with the Lord. Did I mention they were patient? They were so patient…. They were so patient that I decided that marrying a pastor, and homeschooling my kids was just something I couldn’t do. I don’t have the same patience. 🙂

Fast forward to me being just under 16, and meeting truly the man (Jon) of my dreams. There was just one hiccup…. HE WANTED TO BE A PASTOR. That’s right folks a pastor.

You see, I knew what I was in for. The job of a minister is not a 9-5 job. You are “on call” all the time. I remember spending so much time at church just so we could be with my dad as he ministered. I was not bitter, I just wanted something different. So I though.

The Lord quickly softened my heart, and I grew in time to see the all grace that flowed from obedience. Him being a hottie was a huge plus.

We have been married for ten years, and have three beautiful children. Jon has been an associate pastor at our church for almost nine years. He was the junior high ministry pastor for nearly over seven years until recently. We have been call to start a family ministry at our church. Our goal with the family ministry is to support families (especially young families) as a church, and to connect them to other families. It is essentially to grow spiritually healthy families.

My desire, and my goal for this blog is to encourage other pastor, and minister’s wives as we all battle on to support our husbands. “Marriage and family are prime targets for Satan, especially pastors’ marriages.” -Karen Evens

As pastors wives, we often feel that we need to have our guards up even amongst our fellow pastors wives. I have found that having the support from other pastors wives has been the most organic form of encouragement. A simple, “I understand.” can make all the difference. And that is my goal, to provide honest, heartfelt encouragement to those wives in ministry.
